History is the best predictor of the future, and guide to correctively change course. Current events fixation & explotation for ratings is vastly over-rated & absolutely killing us as a "knowlegable" educated people/civilizaion/empire, who know extremely little, dangerously so, about their own voted-in history and its present day/future ramifications. Besides wishing for new constitutional ammendments to save our republic, (won't happen) how about educating the masses via segments on what they've / we've done to their/our own republic via their own votes and re-election of leaders & leader's multi-TRILLION dollar SEA CHANGE policies in terms of fiscal & trade cancers, defaulting on Bretton Woods agreement (opening the flood gates of cheap imported goods, hollowing out our economy as a result, etc), mortgaged the future with feel good tax cut deficit financing of THEIR OWN country, PayNot vs PayGO, running up massive deficits in both budget and trade exports, exploding national debt principal, compounding carrying costs on the verge of exploding when % rates inevitably rise, the over-the-cliff danger of losing "Reserve Currency" priviliges on the world stage, allowing a vastly unproductive Financial Sector to run amuck & dominate our society & risking all, etc. Anchors & shows like Dylan's presenting time-line histories, votes, acts, policies, multi-trillion dollar ramifications, tax cuts, exploding deficits in BOTH budget & trade, out-sourcing explosions, plant closings, charts, graphs, etc. "Talking it" won't do; needs to be SEEN, visualized. Documenting segments on how god awful we have managed OUR OWN country & nation via OUR OWN votes. Pretty simple: Lead by example. Other journalists will eventually catch on that it's NOT them (as in leaders) but their audience (the voters) that have been the massive screw-ups. Leaders simply follow their voters, telling them what they want to hear, unfortuately, in this era of no true leadership. Journalists, lead by switching focus to the real problem: the reading/viewing/listening audience and how they've voted, and the resulting results: $24.5 TRILLION in "additional" national debt principal, net interest carrying costs, and Current Account trade deficits in just the past 30 years alone, after 205 years (1776-1981) of being a relatively balanced or surplused nation, EARNING our prosperity, not borrowing our prosperity. Bush Sr called it Voodoo Economics for a reason, yet little have we learned.
