What is Your Challenge and Solution?

Legalize Marijuana

Naturally grown marijuana has important medicinal purposes that can provide a cheap alternative to expensive drugs. As a recreational drug similar to alcohol an entire industry employing thousands can be created by its legalization. The retail sales of alcohol total over 150 BILLION dollars, that's alot of tax revenue generated plus job creation. The tobacco industry enjoyed over 100 BILLION in sales last year, again lots of tax revenue and jobs came from that. Obviously, alcohol abuse and tobacco use has undesirable consequences, but that too is a money making enterprise from prisons, healthcare, treatment centers, and all sorts of other industrys that add to our local, state, and national tax base. An arguement can be made that marijuana offers much less of the undesirable consequences thereby providing more bang for our buck, The Mexican drug war would practically end overnight saving the lives of thousands.Properly regulated, taxed, and controlled by government the legalization of marijuana could provide a much need jolt to the world's largest consumers....and we might just all get along a little better too!

Use the by-product of growing pot for fuel.

Charcoal, methanol, methane, and gasoline, can be manufactured utilizing the hemp hurds. Fuels made of plants using a distillation process called "pyrolysis" are called biomass fuels. Biomass fuels are clean and virtually free from metals and sulfur, so will not produce the level of air pollution fossil fuels do. Equally as important, burning biomass fuels will not increase the level of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere.

It took the government 13 years to repeal prohibition of liquor. Right after that they made marijuana illegal (got to keep the cops busy). It's been 78 years now. This is absurd.

decriminalize to stop the bulge of prisons; stop the rape of people's homes, cars, bank accounts for a tiny handful of a natural weed that grows all by itself on the face of this earth... the war on drug monies can be spent in other directions - Washington knows this; small town corrupt officers get richer - it is a control mechanism - marijuana smoker; medical users is the least of this countries problems - want tons of money, tax it, dispense it - use your brains not your heads...

This is such an antiquated topic based on myth not reality. Soon "Big Brother" will tell you that aspirin is illegal and harmful; attacking sugar seems to be the next big cause - who did the sugar anger piss off???Legalize Marijuana and stop the silliness, Sandy

Great idea. We spend billions of dollars a year fighting drugs, and it hasn't stopped it. Marijuana can be regulated and taxed just like cigarettes or alcohol. A certain amount of the tax would go to the city the store is located, some to the county, state and federal government. Instead of spending billions, we could be making billions! It would also take away the market for cartels. At the same time however laws against harder drugs should be increased.

should have been done along time ago. although i believe the industrial applications would provide more economic benefit, fiber for cloth bio diesel or what ever oil is used for plastics etc. then the smoking would be an perk of production.

Great Idea. Just look at our over populated prison system filled with drug related crimes which would be corrected.

Hello Dylan. I don't belive Americans are ready for full Legalization. However there are several areas we can adress. 1, Many states now have Medical Marijuana laws and Marijuana for medical use is widely becoming more accepted. We should legalize it for medical use at the federal level. 2, we should deschedual marijuana, it is dose not cause physical addiction like alcohol or many Pharmasudical Rx's. 3,we should De-Criminalize use and possesion of Marijuana like California has. 4,we need to Legalize Industrial Hemp, this could open the floodgates to Job creation and spur growth in making ethonol more of an option without using corn.

Legal marijuana would eventually lead to medical care of many by the gov, not to mention the half stoned drivers on the roads. Most peo who say they need it for medical purposes are lying- there are good alternatives. Some politicians would sell their soul for money-do we really want that kind of a country for our children?
